Homework for May 10th

Writing Assignment:
(1) Write a draft paragraph in your notebook about the character you were assigned (Nick, Tom, Daisy, Jordan). If you wish, you may choose a different character.

Test Preparation:
(2) Prepare an outline and notes on one A4 paper.
You can write your topic sentence on the paper. But no other sentences. Use only words and phrases from the text English text with page numbers.

(3) Be familiar with the main events of chapters 1 and 2.
Review the answers to the questions on the worksheet. You will have time in class to review before the test begins.

Homework for April 26th

1 Read chapter 2 of The Great Gatsby in English or Japanese. Focus on ONE of two places described in the chapter: “the Valley of Ashes” or George Wilson’s garage.

2 Write a topic sentence for a paragraph about the character you were assigned. Answer the question What kind of person is X? Focus on age and appearance, background and personality. List some words and phrases that support your opinion about the character. Use the character worksheet to help you.

I. Use your notes from today to write a paragraph about question 1, 2, 3 or 4.

II. Read Chapter One of The Great Gatsby in Japanese or in English.

III. Next week, students will be divided into groups to discuss Chapter One. There will be a short test on the contents of the chapter after the discussion.
