Graduated Kambe High School, Mie Prefecture. Majored in foreign languages at Aichi University of Education. Received M.A. at Hiroshima University and completed Ph.D. coursework there in 1977. Worked as a Lecturer at Aichi Institute of Technology in 1977. Took up post at Chukyo in 1980. Professor of English Literature both in graduate and post-graduate courses. Visiting Fellow at Shakeseapre Institute, Birmingham University, 1985-86. Received Ph.D. at Hiroshima University in 2004.
